Support Mayor Reed's Budget Message
The City Council is going to have to make difficult decisions to close our budget deficit and preserve core city services. And it is absolutely critical that the Council hears directly from you before they vote on these budget items. The City of San Jose must balance the city budget! Send a message of support for Mayor R's Budget Message to all members of the city council.
Some Councilmembers Just Don't Get it!
On June 11th, Councilmember Nancy Pyle distributed a memo challenging prior council direction and Mayor Reed's Budget Message. In her memo (which you can read here), Councilmember Pyle refers to our requests for employee concessions as "inequitable" and calls the City's attempts to impose pay reductions on employees as "hostile acts." Please let Councilmember Pyle know what you, as a resident and taxpayer, feel about these comments - especially after the City has balanced the budget on the backs of the residents for far too many years! Reduce Employee Compensation
The cost of employees at City Hall has increased by 72% in just 10 years, despite employing fewer people! Tell your elected officials and city leaders to reduce employee compensation now. Take a Stand and Fix the Budget
Tough times call for strong leadership. Ask your elected officials and city leaders to stand up and fix the budget without making drastic cuts to services in the City.
Support a Two-Tiered Retirement System
The City can no longer afford the generous retirement benefits it once offered employees. Tell your elected officials and city leaders to support a secondary retirement system that is more modest and realistic. Get Rid of the Competition Policy
Current city policies effectively eliminate the possibility of contracting out work to private vendors. Ask your elected officials and city leaders to support the contracting out of any services that are not basic essential services if it will save the City money.
Support a 10% Pay Reduction for All Employees
If unions refuse to support modest pay reductions, libraries and community centers will close and fewer police will patrol our neighborhoods. Tell your elected officials and city leaders to support a permanent 10% pay reduction for all employees.
